Galaxy Taco Tuesdays

When: Tuesdays, 5 p.m.

Where: Galaxy Taco, 2259 Avenida de la Playa, La Jolla, 858.228.5655

Being one of the country’s most respected chefs for a couple decades now, Trey Foshee of George’s at the Cove has some pretty talented friends from across the country. And, lucky for taco fans, he’s asked those friends to join him at Taco Tuesdays at his new restaurant in La Jolla Shores, Galaxy Taco. On January 26, Nate Appleman—a James Beard Award-winning chef who relocated to San Diego a while back. On Feb. 2, Francisco Perez—chef behind one of the best damn lamb barbacoa joints in the nation, Aqui Es Texcoco in Chula Vista—will join Foshee. Finally, on Feb. 9 it’s Matthew Orlando—a former San Diego chef who went on to work at the “best restaurant in the world,” Noma, before opening his own incredibly well-received restaurant, Amass, in Copenhagen. There has never been so much talent focused on your taco.

Cost: The cost of tacos.

Where: La Valencia Hotel, 1132 Prospect St., La Jolla, 858.454.0771

Vegan and plant-based food is exploding in San Diego right now, and this dinner should be one of the best showcases of what the city’s top chefs can do without meat. Chef James Montejano has partnered with the Berry Good Foundation, plus six chefs and local farmers for a six-course tasting menu featuring local, organic, sustainable foodstuff. The chefs include Montejano, Dreux Ellis (Café Gratitude), Leslie Durso (private chef featured on Food Network, CNN, etc.), Hanis Cavin (Carnitas Snack Shack), Alex Emery (Hilton Bayfront) and Davin Waite (Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub).

Cost: $125

Chocolate Threeway

When: January 28, 7 p.m.

Where: Eclipse Chocolate, 2145 Fern St., South Park, 619.578.2984,

Will Gustwiller of Eclipse Chocolate is one of the more creative dudes in town, and hyperactive in the community. I haven’t had his food at his South Park eatery and chocolate factory, but I have had his chocolate truffles, and they’re excellent. For this event, he’ll pair three chocolate truffles and good cheeses with three craft beers from Urbn Street Brewing Co. The brewer will be on hand to give some ins and outs of the beers on hand.

Cost: $20
