Mezcal Pairing Dinner

Where: Urban Solace, 3823 30th St, North Park

When: May 4, 6PM

Read this quick. Because by the time you finish, tickets may be gone. Rarely do you get chefs of this caliber in the same room, let alone a six-course meal with liquid pairings for $85. A steal. Larceny. Chefs Matt Gordon (Urban Solace), Trey Foshee (George’s), Christian Graves (JSix), Jeff Jackson (The Lodge at Torrey Pines) and Jason Knibb will cook a Mexican-inspired meal to go with Mezcal drinks from Jonathan Barbieri, master distiller and co-founder of Pierde Almas Mezcals. It’s a six-course meal. Course 1, Foshee (dry aged beef tartare, sangrita, jicama, cucumber, worm salt). Course 2, Gordon (huitlacoche, house-made requeson, squash leaves, cilantro crepe, smoked poblano). Course 3, Jackson (chicken liver-stuffed quail, peanut mole). Course 4, Knibb (stuffed leg of rabbit, pepitas, peas, hibiscus-glazed carrots). Course 5, Graves (Mezcal-smoked goat chili, house-made goat mozzarella). Course 6, dessert surprise. Book it now. Can’t say it enough.

Cost: $85

CincoTeca

When: May 5

Local gourmet tacoists Puesto have been the shining star of The Headquarters project in Downtown. And for Cinco de Mayo they’re planning a blowout that will transform the entire open-air courtyard. Really, for the restaurant, it’s just Taco Tuesday (and they will honor the usual $2 tacos, $5 margarita specials). But they’re bringing La Santa Cecilia, a band that won this year’s Latin Grammy for best rock album, plus tropical band Los Master Plus. A Grammy winner performing outside, in the general vicinity of craft Mexican cocktails and quality tacos. I’m in.

Chef Celebration Dinners

Where: Multiple Venues

When: Every Tuesday in April

Chef Celebration was created in 1995 to help aspiring young chefs pay for what is, ultimately, a very costly endeavor (to become a chef). To date, they’ve raised over $225,000 for culinary scholarships. And the way they do it is by inviting some of the city’s top chefs to collaborate on six-course dinners that will happen every Tuesday in April at different restaurants. The events are all too much to mention here. Go to their site, sign up, support the future of the local kitchens.

Cost: $65
