Patrons of the Prado’s Masterpiece Gala 2016 was held on July 8 at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. The 19th annual gala, Full Steam Ahead, will provide grants to 6 museum beneficiaries in addition to Bucks for Buses, which provides transportation grants that enable underserved school children to experience Balboa Park, for all 11 museum and theatre beneficiaries. The David C. Copley Foundation is providing a matching grant of $50,000 to support the beneficiaries. The announcement of the net proceeds will be made at the annual director’s meeting this fall.

Toyota and Honda of El Cajon and Wells Fargo Dealer Services presented a $22,700 donation to the YMCA of San Diego County, in appreciation of their ongoing community support efforts. The funds will help the YMCA’s mission of strengthening its community through offering programs that support youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. “We’re thrilled to work with Wells Fargo Dealer Services to provide support great neighborhood programs that touch and benefit as many kids as possible,” said Greg Kaminsky, president of Toyota of El Cajon.

The San Diego Foundation announced $400,300 in grants for the 2016 Opening the Outdoors Program to support education and environmental efforts across San Diego, focusing on cross-organization collaboration among regional partners. The Program is supported by The San Diego Foundation, Satterberg Foundation, and Hattie Ettinger Conservation Fund. The 2016 grants include Outdoor Outreach, $58,757; Environmental Health Coalition, $54,000; Endangered Habitats Conservancy, $50,957; and San Dieguito River Conservancy, $25,000.

Autism Speaks Walk kick-off is being held on Aug. 4 at Dave & Busters on Camino del Rio North. The walk will raise funds for autism and is scheduled for Oct. 1.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County hosted its 23rd Annual Golf Marathon at the Rancho Bernardo Inn on June 17. The $126,000 raised will benefit San Diego children waiting to be matched with a Big Brother/Big Sister mentor.

Urban Corps of San Diego County’s Corps-to-Career program

AT&T contributed $25,000 to Urban Corps of San Diego County to support its Corps-to-Career program, which helps at-risk youth transition to higher education and the workforce after participating in the organization’s high school diploma and job training program. The check was presented at a ceremony held on July 19. The contribution is part of AT&T Aspire. This contribution will help the organization better serve students in its Corps-to-Career program.

Rubio’s Restaurants held its 5th annual Rubio’s CoastFest in Oceanside on July 16. As part of their commitment to protect the ocean, Rubio’s invites volunteers to help with trash removal. This year 4,000 attendees removed 1,500 lbs of litter and enjoyed a celebration of the ocean with music, food, and drinks.

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank’s Food 4 Kids Backpack Program was held during the month of May. Participating restaurants selected a best-selling dish and donated $1 to the program every time that dish was sold. This year’s campaign raised $10,000 which will provide 36 weekends worth of food to 50 school children in the next school year. The program provides weekend backpacks filled with food to elementary school children living in poverty.

The 2016 Pacific Military Youth of the Year was held on July 29 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt. Disney was the Presenting Sponsor with additional support provided by University of Phoenix, Toyota, and Taco Bell. Proceeds help provide children of military personnel with critical youth development programs and activities, giving families the vital support they need.

The 30th Annual Fur Ball honoring Rita and Brys Myers, is being held on Aug. 13 at San Diego Humane Society’s Gaines Street location. Sponsors include Petco, Petco Foundation, Purina, VCA Animal Hospitals, California Coast Credit, and EDCO. All proceeds support San Diego Humane Society in its mission to inspire compassion.
