The Grossmont Hospital Foundation’s Sharp HospiceCare Benefit Regatta was held on Aug. 28 and 29. Beginning with the dinner on Friday evening at the Hotel del Coronado and followed by the Regatta on Saturday, a total of $360,000 was raised to benefit Sharp HospiceCare’s Homes for Hospice campaign – an initiative to build hospice homes in San Diego. The Regatta was hosted in partnership with Coronado Yacht Club and Cortez Racing Association.

Make-a-wish tuna challenge

Make-a-wish tuna challenge

The 26th Annual Make-A-Wish Tuna Challenge was held on Aug. 30 at the Silver Gate Yacht Club. Jobsite Supply Co. was the Presenting Sponsor. Others included Ron and Nancy Legere, Spinal Elements and Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Nation. The San Diego Mazda dealers donated a car for the Grand Raffle Prize. Tickets were sold over the last 6 months and the winner had a choice between 3 new Mazda car models. The total net proceeds was $240,000 will go directly to grant wishes for children in San Diego County.

ArtReach is hosting a Party ARTy on Sept. 20 at the home of Wende and Jim King in Del Sur. The event celebrates seven years of connecting students in elementary schools throughout San Diego County to hands on visual arts education taught by local artists. Proceeds will benefit the ArtReach Free Workshop Program. Knockaround has donated a pair of sunglasses to each person in attendance.

CUSO Financial Services hosted a “Summer Splash” fundraiser to support Mission Federal Credit Union’s Back-to-School Drive. For every $1 donated, CFS employees received a water balloon to toss at the CFS and Mission Fed managers. The drive collected new school supplies for children in need in grades K-6. Mission Fed collected backpacks and school supplies at all of its branches during the month of August. CFS is the broker-dealer for Mission Fed and provides its members with investment services.

Tri-City Hospital Foundation is sponsoring a golf tournament, “Swing Clubs for a Cause” on Sept. 21 at the Shadowridge Golf Club. The funds raised will support the expansion and renovation of Tri-City Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care unit and enhanced Women and Infant Services. The NICU is the only Level III, or critical care, facility in North County.

Jewish Family Service of San Diego received a $12,166 grant from the County of San Diego’s District 4 Neighborhood Reinvestment Program. The grant will go towards the purchase of furniture for the counseling lobby and children’s waiting area of JFS’s new Joan & Irwin Jacobs Campus.

Holes for Heroes and the San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Foundation is presenting the 9th Annual Military Appreciation golf tournament. The tournament is being held on Sept. 18 at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club. Sponsors include Cubic Corporation, Wells Fargo Private Bank, Viasat, Sunroad Auto Group and Sycuan Casino. The funds raised support the various needs of those who serve and sacrifice and to humanitarian projects supported by the San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Foundation.

Fore Kids Golf Tournament is being held on Sept. 21 at the La Jolla Country Club hosted by Jeannie and Arthur Rivkin to support foster youth. The event benefits the Promises2Kids programs that support 3,000 foster children in San Diego County.

The Lab Rescuers’ organization is holding its 11th annual gala event, Lab Amore on Sept. 19 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla. Labrador Rescuers is a volunteer organization established in 2004 to rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home stray, abandoned or unwanted Labrador Retrievers into caring homes. In 2014,294 Labs and Lab mixes were rescued from San Diego and surrounding shelters.

American Heart association – Coronado Spinner

The American Heart Association’s 24th San Diego Heart and Stroke Walk is on Sept. 19 at Balboa Park.  The  funds raised will benefit the AHA’s cardiovascular research efforts, community education outreach and other mission-related work. The San Diego Heart and Stroke Walk is part of San Diego’s My Heart. My Life. campaign and is presented locally by Union Bank and nationally by Subway.
