OPUS 2013, San Diego Symphony Opening Night Gala is being held on Oct. 12 at Copley Symphony Hall. The evening begins with a reception and dinner followed by a concert featuring Kevin Cole, the only contemporary pianist endorsed by the Gershwin family. The private cocktail social and post-concert salon is sponsored by Van Cleef & Arpels Fine Jewelry.

YWCA Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

The New Children’s Museum received a $10,000 grant from Wells Fargo. The donation goes to support the Museum’s Title 1 School Visits program, which allows local San Diego school children to visit the Museum for free. This is the second year the Museum has received support from Wells Fargo.

The YWCA will hold its Walk a Mile In Her Shoes, I’m Man Enough, on Oct. 17. This year the Y will produce an exclusive 2014 calendar featuring men wearing pumps. Photos, along with comments explaining why each man supports the event and what being “man enough” means to them,  will be posted on the YWCA Facebook page in the lead up to the event and inviting Facebooks fans to vote on their favorites. Votes can also be cast the day of the event. The twelve winners will be announced at the event after the walk.

The 15th Annual Crystal Ball Gala committee is holding monthly meetings to finalize details for this year’s event which will be held on Oct. 26. The Gala will be held at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club with a gourmet dinner by Jeffrey Strauss of Pamplemousse Grille. Proceeds benefit Casa de Amparo, an organization treating and preventing child abuse and neglect throughout San Diego County.

St. Paul’s Senior Homes & Services held its annual LUV Gala on Sept. 7 at the Paradise Point Resort. The $125,000 raised will benefit the St. Paul’s Memory Care Program which provides individualized approach to care and living for senior residents experiencing different stages of dementia. Sponsors included Sodexo and Secure Transportation. Other donors include Ankrom Moisan, the Society of St. Paul’s, Dr. Jim Soules and Mark & Barbara DeMichele.

St. Paul’s LUV Gala

The Maritime Museum of San Diego is planning a Halloween event to be held on the Star of India the weekends of Oct. 18-19 and 25-26. Lantern led tours around the ship will be conducted where guests will hear legends from the Star of India’s past, including how John Campbell fell to his death from the rigging, and how an Army Captain on the ship slit his throat.

The Gildred Family are the Millennium Award Honorees for Friends of Balboa Park. Tom Gildred will accept the Friends of Balboa Park’s Millennium Award on behalf of The Gildred Family at the Thirteenth Annual Awards Luncheon to be held on Oct. 29 at Balboa Park Club. Kim Ducio, “Architecture and Artifacts” is the Keynote Speaker. Major underwriter to support the luncheon is Connie K. Golden.

The Third Annual MCC Celebration of Hope Reception is scheduled to be held on Nov. 3 in the lobby of the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center Lobby. Make the Hope Happen is honoring Alicia Gwynn is the Extraordinary Cancer Caregiver honoree for her dedication and care of her husband, Tony Gwynn. Laurie Black who lost her husband, Robert to cancer, is the Honorary Chair.

San Diego Magazine is presenting Women Who Move The City on Sept. 24 at the Westin Gaslamp Hotel.

Debra Reed, CEO Sempra is being recognized with the Exemplary Leadership Award for her outstanding performance at Sempra. Linda Katz is being recognized with the Community Service Award for her commitment to serving the city of San Diego.
