Cartoon Network is presenting The Regular Show Regular Zone at The New Children’s Museum during Comic-Con 2013. The Museum will be transformed into the Regular Show Regular Zone – a sensory feast complete with nostalgic 80’s arcade games, Regular Show inspired video games, and neon lighting. There is no charge throughout San Diego Comic-Con 2013.

In an effort to raise awareness for the Live Proud campaign, AT&T joined the San Diego community on July 13 and 14 at the San Diego Pride. Through the Live Proud initiative, AT&T is championing pride and supporting The Trevor Project, the national leader in crisis intervention and suicide prevention services for LGBTQ youth.  AT&T has a long history of LGBTQ support. Starting in 1975, AT&T became one of the first Fortune 500 companies to adopt a non-discrimination policy toward sexual orientation, and in 1999, one of the first to adopt domestic partner benefits for LGBTQ employees. Since 2004, AT&T has been listed in the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s “Best Places to Following adoption of a policy prohibiting discrimination against employees based on sexual orientation in 1975, AT&T formed the AT&T LEAGUE (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Allies Employees of AT&T) in 1987.

The 5th Annual Phil’s Big BBQ was held on June 24 at the San Diego Padres ballpark. The $72,000 raised support the Operation Bigs military mentoring program which provides one-to-one mentoring for children with a deployable parent. Torrey Pines Bank was the Title sponsor along with Padres Foundation and Frank Motors Group.

The Grand Del Mar was ranked the San Diego luxury resort in California by Travel + Leisure magazine in its 18th annual “World’s Best Awards.” GDM was ranked number four in the Continental U.S. In addition, The Spa at The Grand Del Mar ranked among the top five spas in the Continental U.S. According to Tom Voss, president of The Grand Del Mar, the resort earned a remarkable 93.27 percent rating and The Spa, a 94.83 rating – naming both in the top five for their categories in the Continental U.S.

Center for Community Solutions held its 17th Annual Bankruptcy T’ee Golf Tournament on July 9 at the Coronado Municipal Golf Course. Proceeds benefit CCSSD through the Ardelle Williams Fund for Battered Women.

The San Diego Chorus is hosting an “Alphabet Soup” concert on July 27 at Qualcomm Hall. The San Diego Chorus of Sweet Adelines International will present a Broadway-style choreography and a four-part a cappala  harmony. Rolling Readers, a nonprofit organization which helps low-income, at-risk children enjoy reading through read-aloud volunteers. “The fight to prevent illiteracy is so terribly important to the children of our world,” said chorus director Kim Vaughn. “The San Diego Chorus is excited to be a part of this fund raising project and can’t wait to put our support into music for all to hear.”

The San Diego Regional Minority Supplier Development Council announced 10 winners of its 2013 Supplier Diversity Awards. The awards were given in six categories recognizing outstanding achievements of individuals and companies who have made significant contributions to advancing supplier diversity in San Diego. The President’s Award is given to one individual and one company that have demonstrated exemplary leadership. This year’s individual President’s Award was given to Bruce Geier, President of Technology Integration Group, and the company President’s Award was given to Union Bank.

Bonnie LaChappa was named the 2013 Lakeside Citizen of the Year by the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce. LaChappa , a lifelong Lakeside resident and an elected member of the Barona Band of Mission Indians Tribal Council, was presented the Harry J. Spence Award for her tireless volunteerism in the East County community.  The Lakeside Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award originated in 1980. The first recipient was Harry J. Spence, a Lakeside resident and influential community volunteer.
