The Los Angeles Clippers Superstar Chris Paul hosted overnight and day camp June 24-27 at University of San Diego California. The Camp seeks to develop a positive all-around athlete on and off the court, giving campers an opportunity to realize their potential in a safe environment that encourages teamwork, gamesmanship, self-confidence, respect and dedication to the game.  The CP3 Foundation sponsored 25 young people from after school programs.

Five San Diego area high school students have been selected to take part in the Bank of America Charitable Foundation 2013 Student Leaders program. The students were awarded with paid eight-week summer internships at local nonprofit organizations. The Program is part of B of A’s ongoing commitment to provide individuals with access and exposure to critical resources that will bolster their work and life skills while also benefiting the community.  In addition the internships, the students will attend a weeklong Bank of America Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. in July.

The YWCA received 40 boxes of new toiletries and gift items for Mother’s Day from Movers for Moms. The donation drive ran for several months with collection sites at local schools and businesses, in order to collect items from community members. The boxes went to the mothers in the Becky’s House program.

In honor of Ovarian Cancer Month, Nine Girls Ask is planning its 5th annual luncheon “Celebrate Life” to be held on Sept. 14 at the US Grant Hotel. The goals of NGA is to raise funds for research and early detection, to raise awareness, and to offer One on One Patient outreach to women in all stages of treatment for ovarian cancer.

Patrons of the Prado’s Annual Gala “A Passport to Adventure” is being held on July 13 at the San Diego Natural History Museum. The San Diego Junior Theater and the San Diego Natural History Museum will be the primary beneficiaries of the proceeds from the event. In addition, funds will go to educational programs that bring school children from San Diego County to 11 cultural institutions in Balboa Park. The 15th annual Gala is being held in collaboration with the Balboa Park Celebration, organizer of the 2014 Centennial Celebration.

Hellman

Ten junior faculty members at the University of California, San Diego will receive a total of $341,250 from the Hellman Fellowship Program. The award will support the recipients’ research and scholarly work as they strive for tenure with the university. The Hellman Fellowship Program was established at UC San Diego in 1995 with an initial gift of $2.5 million from Chris and Warren Hellman. The program is designed to provide financial support and encouragement to young faculty who show capacity for great distinction in their research and creative activities. Since its inception, more than $3.9 million has been awarded to 252 Hellman Faculty Fellows at UC San Diego.

Mama’s Kitchen Councilmembers

Mama’s Kitchen Councilmembers

The second annual Kickin’ It Challenge held a two day youth soccer tournament on June 23 and 24 at the Frances Ryan Park in Escondido. The net proceeds of $32,000 went to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, San Diego. The funds will be used to support diagnostic mammograms, surgeries, meal delivery and child care.

Mama’s Kitchen hosted an open house event on June 20 to create awareness of the organization’s capital campaign. Funds raised will be used to pay for the purchase and renovation of the organization’s new permanent home and allows for increased capacity to serve more San Diegans affected by HIV/AIDS or cancer.
