Jewish Family Services Sets Record at Heart & Soul Gala

Jewish Family Services Heart & Soul Gala was held on Mar. 28 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla. This year’s theme, Embracing Community, celebrated the Mitzvah Honorees Ernest & Evelyn Rady, Ron Zollman, and the agency’s partnership with Susan G. Komen, San Diego. JFS provides individuals and families with human services to support their financial, physical, emotional social, and spiritual health. A record-setting $1,150,000 was raised including a gift from the Radys.

The Karina’s group of restaurants presented $13,000 to Wounded Warrior Project at a ceremony held on Apr. 9 at the new Karina’s Mexican Seafood Restaurant in downtown San Diego. The funds were raised through Karina’s Group’s annual golf tournament held at Salt Creek Golf Course in Chula Vista, and will help support programs and services for Wounded Warriors and their families.

SPARK Gala, Ignite The Fight Against Cancer, UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center Gala is being held on Apr. 25 at the Grand Del Mar.  “A Decade of Excellence”, Moores Cancer Center celebrates 10 years of the best in cancer care. Proceeds from the SPARK Gala directly benefit cancer research and patient & family support service programs that are available to every Moores Cancer Center patient.


The Mission Federal ArtWalk is holding its 31st annual celebration of rich arts and culture landscape in Little Italy on Apr. 25 and 26. ArtWalk activities help to support the mission of ArtReach San Diego, whose mission is to take visual art workshops into San Diego County K-6 schools, offering free programming to schools with no resources for art education. KidsWalk is a key feature of the 2 day festival where children can create art and learn from artists and volunteers.

St. Madeleine’s Sophie Center

St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center’s Morning Glory Brunch was held on Apr. 11. The brunch was held in the organic garden with 20 local restaurants offering complimentary food and beverage tastings, art work from SMSC students and local artists and the Great Frog Race. Jasmine Creek Florists sponsored an Arts Alive presentation of floral arrangements inspired by SMSC’s student artwork. The $15,000 raised will support the programs of SMSC.

The 2015 Cygnet by the Sea Gala High Hide Celebration was held on Apr. 19 at The Marine Room in La Jolla. Executive Chef Bernard Guillas and Chef de Cuisine Ron Oliver crafted a mix of unique, global flavors that paired with the restaurant’s iconic seaside panorama. Cabaret style entertainment was provided by Cygnet performers.


The 15th annual Super Heroes for Youth Celebrity Waiters Luncheon is being held on May 1 at the Joe and Vi Jacobs Center. Dan Spinazzola is being honored as the Super Hero for Youth. Sponsors include Corrections Corporation of America, San Diego Padres, San Diego Chargers, US Bank, Jack in the Box and Sycuan. STAR/PAL brings youth and law enforcement together today to build saver communities tomorrow. 

In honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, San Diego chefs will come together to support the children of Casa de Amparo at Meet the Chefs on Apr. 26 at the Del Mar Hilton. This year, four Casa Kids will work alongside Chefs to share their passion in the culinary arts and gain experience from the Chefs. Some of the participating restaurants and chefs are Hilton San Diego/Del Mar, Del Mar Brigantine, Pamplemousse Grille and Il Fornaio.
