San Diego Symphony sponsored Girls Night Out, A Celebration of Arts & Fashion on Mar. 26 at the ResMed building in Kearny Mesa. ResMed was the presenting sponsor of the evening which raised $25,000 for the outreach and education programs of the Symphony. Other sponsors included Lisette Farrell, Olivia Farrell, Margaret’s the Couture Cleaner, Holland America Line, DW Skin Care, Joyce Glazer and Lori Wolton.

Grossmont Hospital Foundation’s 30th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament is scheduled for Apr. 17 at the Sycuan Golf & Tennis Resort. Master Sponsors are EDCO, Grossmont Center and the Shea Family. The Tournament Sponsor is Pacific Building Group.

The San Diego Local Initiatives Support Corporation has partnered with Bayside Community Center to establish a Financial Opportunity Center at Bayside. The Centers are career and personal financial service centers that focus on the bottom line for low-to-moderate income individuals. Bayside Community Center was awarded a $50,000 grant from the LISC San Diego to support staffing capacity to develop on site employment services. On Mar. 20, Bayside Community Center and LISC-San Diego celebrated the grand opening of the Financial Opportunity Center at Bayside.

Casa de Amparo hosted several of San Diego’s top chefs on Mar. 25 in preparation for the 18th annual Meet the Chefs event which will be held on May 4 at the Hilton San Diego Del Mar. “I’ve been part of Casa’s cause and the startup of Meet the Chefs since its inception in 1996,” said Pamplemousse Grille Chef and Owner. “To see the event’s growth and development with the support of committed staff, donors and businesses is nothing short of a miracle.”

The San Diego Air & Space Museum is holdings its 31st annual Charity Golf Tournament on Apr. 21 at The Farms Golf Club. Proceeds benefit the Museum’s educational programs. All contributions create opportunities for children to excel in the fields of math, science, engineering and technology.  Sponsors for the tournament include American Airlines, Commission for Arts and Culture, City of San Diego.

North County Health Services received an “Innovations in Community Health” grant from the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust in the amount of $38,676. The grant was awarded as part of the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust’s commitment to help support community health and expand access to quality health care.

The YWCA In the Company of Women is being held on Apr. 25 at the San Diego Marriott Marquis. The luncheon will also include the TWIN Awards recognizing professional women in San Diego. The event raises financial support and awareness for the YWCA’s comprehensive domestic violence and homelessness programs, including Becky’s House®, Passages, and Cortez Hill Family Center. Laura Dern who is an American actress, film director and producer, is the Keynote Speaker at the luncheon.

The 35th Free Cone Day was held at Ben & Jerry’s Horton Plaza on Apr. 6. Donations totaling $2,100 was a record for Free Cone Day and will  support the programs and services of the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA. The Humane Society had pets available for adoption on-site during the event.

GRID Alternatives San Diego completed their 500th solar panel installation for low-income families using free solar panels donated by Sullivan Solar Power. The project was installed by volunteers at GRID Alternatives San Diego.  For each property owner that goes solar with Sullivan Solar Power, the company donates one solar panel to GRID Alternatives. It is expected that 90 families will receive free solar installations as a result of the partnership.

The Torrey Pines Kiwanis Foundation, producers of the La Jolla Festival of the Arts has donated $50,000 to the Disabled Services Advisory Council, which supports the City of San Diego Park & Recreation Department Therapeutic Recreation Services. TRS provides sports, recreation, leisure and outreach services to San Diegans with physical cognitive and psycho social disabilities.
