Tux n’ Tennies Summer Bash

San Diego Symphony’s Tux n’ Tennies Summer Bash is being held on Thursday, June 27 at Embarcadero Marine Park South. “We always see Tux and Tennies as the official kick off to summer in San Diego and are excited that this year’s event will be on Thursday for the first time,” said Nikki Clay, Co-Chair of the event.   Kc and The Sunshine Band will be performing. Sycuan Casino is the Presenting Sponsor. Proceed will benefit the Symphony’s music education and outreach programs, which reached over 60,000 students last year.

The Petco Foundation 5th Annual Hope Gala

The Petco Foundation 5th Annual Hope Gala honoring Lily Tomlin raised $450,000 to benefit Actors and Others for Animals and the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).  Tomlin was recognized as a long-time advocate for her dedicated work and commitment to animal welfare. The Gala was held on May 18 at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel. Major sponsors included Pillsbury, Dave and Phyllis Snyder, Natural Balance, Seargant’s, Nestle Purina and Blue Buffalo.

The 10th Annual Father of the Year Awards is being held on June 6 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla to benefit the American Diabetes Association in San Diego. The event honors fathers in the U.S. who have demonstrated the ability to balance their personal lives, serve as role models strength, commitment and love for their children and help make positive contributions to their communities. Locally, those being honored are Donald Ankeny, president/CEO of Westcore Properties; Jim Fitzpatrick, owner, CEO and publisher, San Diego Magazine; and Todd Leigh, attorney, Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch.

The San Diego Center for Children’s 126th Anniversary Dinner event – IMAGINE – will be held on June 20 at the U.S. Grant Hotel. Sponsors for the evening include Sycuan, US Bank, Pepsi, Southwest Airlines, SDG&E and Union Bank. The Center’s children, accompanied by the San Diego Children’s Choir will present a special performance.

The Campaign for SDSU now totals $400 million. A $250,000 donation from Union Bank to SDSU’s Guardian Scholars program, which provides foster youth, as well as those who have been homeless, with a comprehensive holistic support program to help them achieve the goal of a college degree, pushed the campaign past this milestone. “Crossing the $400 million milestone is a tribute to the extraordinary generosity of our alumni and community supporters,” said SDSU President Elliot Hirshman. “

Ocean Discovery Institute

Ocean Discovery Institute is holding its Celebration and Appreciation Night on June 5 at Monroe Clark Middle School Auditorium to celebrate the success of the students and supporters. Special recognition will be given to SDG&E, Sue Pelley, Senior Park Ranger, City of San Diego Park & Recreation Department and Dr. Miguel Garcia-Guzman, Head of R&D, Aspyrian Therapeutics.

Alliance Healthcare Foundation has awarded a $100,000 Mission Support grant to Embrace, a nonprofit organization that mobilizes college students to address San Diego community needs. “Embrace fulfills many factors that Alliance Healthcare Foundation looks for to determine the grant recipient including leadership, quality and sustainability,” said Nancy Sasaki, Alliance Healthcare Foundation’s Executive Director. “

The Maritime Museum of San Diego is hosting a Father’s Day celebration aboard the 145’ schooner Californian on Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16. The four hour sailing trip begins at noon around the waters of San Diego Bay. Guests are served refreshments and have the opportunity to tour the museum before and after the sail.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is hosting its Corporate Breakfast on June 11 at Petco Park to kick off the 2013 Light the Night Walk. The breakfast is an opportunity for businesses to get more information on the annual event and learn ways their company can get involved in raising funds for the fight against cancer. This year the goal is to raise $750,000. The walk will be held on Nov. 8 at Petco Park. The event Gold Sponsor is the San Diego Padres and other sponsors include Burlington Coat Factory, Celgene, Pfizer, The Takeda Oncology Company and Spectrum Pharmaceuticals.
