LightBridge Hospice Community Foundation is hosting its inaugural celebration event of inspirational people on June 21. The event is being held at the Old Poway Park and is honoring Emmet W. Lee with the foundation’s inaugural “Lights of LightBridge” award. “Dr. Lee is LightBridge Hospice’s Medical Director and an outstanding leader with a steadfast commitment to shedding light on the lives of others,” said Jill Mendlen, Board Chair of LightBridge Hospice Community Foundation. Sponsor of the event include Independa, Creative Capital Management, Torrey Pines Bank, Nico Insurance and Palomar Medical Group.

The Ultimate Man Cave, a benefit for Voices for Children was held on June 13 at Stinagaree. It was chaired by two male board members, Dick Pfister and Kevin Harris, who wanted to do their own version of Wine, Women and Shoes. Sponsors included Cox Communication, Kristi & Dick Pfister and Matt Osborne. VFC has a matching grant donor for all new and increased gifts made by June 30 up to $500,000.

Phil’s Big BBQ is being held on June 24 at the Padres Ballpark. All proceeds benefit Bog Brothers Big Sisters’ Operation Bigs which provides mentors for children of deployed Marine and Navy parents. Supporting sponsors are Torrey Pines Bank, Frank Scione, Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, Karl Strauss Brewing Company, San Diego Padres and Kid Ventures.

From Farm to Bay Food & Wine Classic is being held on Aug. 2. The fourth annual culinary celebration will benefit Living Coast Discovery Center. The event being held on the San Diego Bay features several food and beverage partners including acclaimed chef Andrew Spurgin as Culinary Chair.

The Salvation Army Door of Hope Margaret A. Cargill Campus is holding the Dedication Ceremony for the new Transitional Living Center on June 21. TLC has expanded to 24 new apartments for homeless mothers with children. The TLC is a safe haven for the moms and their children.  Being homeless traumatizes children and the Parent Child Interactive Therapy lab helps mothers learn new ways to interact with and encourage their little ones while building stability in their lives.

Barrio Logan College Institute raised $400,000 at its 3rd annual celebration “Writing the Next Chapter” to provide more students the support they need to enroll and succeed in college. For over 17 years, BLCI has been providing San Diego’s most disadvantaged students through free after school enrichment activities that empower and prepare them to become the first in their families to go to college. 100% of BLCI’s high school graduates are accepted into colleges and universities.

The American Diabetes Association raised 207,000 at its 2013 Father of the Year Awards dinner held on June 6 at the Hyatt Aventine La Jolla. The funds raised will support diabetes research and programs and services for people with diabetes.

CUCINA Urbana is partnering with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure San Diego for a wine-centric party for a pink purpose. On June 22 guests are invited for a one-of-a-kind tasting series of international rose` wines. A portion o the proceeds will benefit the San Diego Komen Foundation.

The Downtown San Diego Partnership 20th Annual Golf Tournament is scheduled for June 21 at the Coronado Municipal Golf Course. Sycuan is the Title Sponsor and Bridgepoint Education is the Presenting Sponsor.

Soda & Swine, a Normal Heights meatball shop will donate 50% of all food sales for five days beginning July 1. The money will help fund a new YMCA neighborhood family center, which will be located in City Heights. Soda & Swine is partnering with The Copley-Price Family YMCA and a local nonprofit, Philanthro. This new Y will meet the needs of a growing and diverse community. Formal groundbreaking on the new locations is scheduled for September 2013.
