The 5th Annual Gold Shield Gala was held on Sept. 10 at the US Grant Hotel. A photo memorial of fallen Officer JD DeGuzman was presented along with Chief Zimmerman’s recognition of Officer Bob Truderung as K9 Handler of the Year who has served in SDPD’s K9 Unit for 25 years. A total of $280,000 was raised. Contributions were made to fund 14 police dogs including a $50,000 donation from the D.W. Hearst, Jr. Foundation. Major sponsors included Sycuan, Bill Howe Plumbing, Heating and Air and Wells Fargo.

 Foundation for the Children – Constantine Maroulis

Foundation for the Children – Constantine Maroulis

The Annual Concert for the Kids, hosted by the Foundation for the Children of the Californias, was held on Aug. 27th at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe. Constantine Maroulis, two- time  Tony Award nominee and former Broadway Rock of Ages star,was the headline entertainer and was so moved by the Foundation’s mission in supporting the Tijuana pediatric medical complex, that he sent the Foundation a PSA, endorsing their efforts. As a result of the match from Price Philanthropies, the concert raised $200,000. Sponsors included Becky Moores, Paul & Naoko Noble Charitable Trust, The San Diego Foundation, Sportfishing Association of California and Adams Campbell Co.

Make-A-Wish San Diego received a gift from the Home Expressions by JDR team, to help make 9 year old Theresa’s wish come true. Due to her limited mobility, it was difficult to maneuver her out of the wheelchair for a warm shower in their existing bathroom. The JDR team made her wish come true by remodeling the space to make it functional and safe.

Jewish Family Service of San Diego received a $35,000 grant from the Hadassah Foundation to support the Girls Give Back teen leadership program. The program enables Jewish teen girls to address the challenges faced by young Jewish women in meaningful, self-directed, and ongoing service learning and leadership development opportunities. The GGB program empowers participants to improve their self-image, build their confidence to take on future leadership positions, and develop meaningful relationships with Jewish peers.

Fashion 4 a Cause

Fashion 4 a Cause

The Family & Lifestyle Council at University Club Atop Symphony Towers is presenting the 2nd Annual  Kids 4 A Cause Fashion Show on Oct. 1. The Runway is featuring Merci Boutique – Kids; Beach Town Baby – Babies; Tres Cool – Women. The Brunch also features musical performances. Proceeds will benefit The San Diego Symphony Notables, promoting music education for children.

Community Health Improvement Partners held its annual Rendezvous 2016 on Sept. 10 . Featured speakers  to highlight the challenges of childhood obesity prevention, included Lt. General Mark Hertling and chef Ann Cooper. A tasting reception featured Stone Brewing, Coastal Roots Farms, Savor Catering and Seaside Market.

San Diego County Credit Union Teachers Awards

San Diego County Credit Union Teachers Awards

Cox Presents: A Salute to Teachers sponsored by San Diego County Credit Union. The 43rd Annual San Diego County Teacher of the Year Awards was held in collaboration with the San Diego County Office of Education and Cox Communications on Sept. 10 at the Balboa Theatre. The awards highlighted the work and dedication of the county’s public school teachers. The five 2016-2017 San Diego County Teachers of the Year are: Jenny Anderson, Brooke Crocker, Stuart Douglas, Megan Gross and Amy Schwenke.

Habitat for Humanity and Encore Capital Group repaired homes for San Diego families in the Imperial Beach Community on Sept. 17. Encore Capital Group donated $42,000 and 60 employee volunteers helped repair homes. The effort is part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Program.

The San Ysidro Health Center is presenting its 11th Annual Clasico de Golf Tournament on Sept. 26 at the San Diego Country Club. Funds raised will support the health programs and services of SYHC. Sponsors for the event include Business Complete Solutions, SIMNSA Health Plan, Coordinated Fleet Services, MILLS communications and Barney & Barney.
