Casa Cornelia Law Center recognizes Price Philanthropies

Cornelia Law Center presented its 2015 La Mancha Humanitarian Award to Price Philanthropies Foundation. Robert and Allison Price accepted the award for the foundation’s financial support for Casa Cornelia’s work in City Heights and throughout the county. Others receiving awards included Teodora Purcell of Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy as its Distinguished Pro Bono Attorney of the Year. DLA Piper received the Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year.

Coming up on November 14:

Andrew and Kim Busch are Honorary Chairs of the University of San Diego Founders’Gala which is being held at the Jenny Craig Pavilion University of San Diego. Funds raised will go to supporting student scholarships. The evening will feature the Swarovski Sparkle Station with 100 Swarovski crystal items available. Heritage Sponsors are Bartell Hotels, CYMER, USBank and Shiley Foundation.

The 30th Anniversary Gala Grossmont Hospital Foundation is being held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. The Presenting Sponsors are Glenn Napierskie Family and Sharp Grossmont Hospital Staff.

K9 Crimefighters 4th Annual Gold Shield Gala presented by the San Diego Police Foundation is being held at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar. Scripps, SDGE, Motorola Solutions, Walmart and Wells Fargo are some of the sponsors.

The 7th Annual Storybook Ball presented by United Through Reading is being held at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort. BAE Systems is the Title Sponsor. Others include Target, Cobham, Engility and Insperity.

Project Concern International’s 27th annual Hands Across Borders gala was held on Oct. 22 at La Costa Resort and Spa. The Hoehn and Zable families received PCI’s Legacy Award for their multi-generational support of international humanitarian projects. Three school leaders were also recognized with PCI’s Heroes award for encouraging global citizenship among their students. Carol Jensen fro Francis Parker School, Susie Nordenger from La Jolla Country Day and David Moseley from The Bishop’s School have impacted local youth by involving theim in PCI’s work overseas.

In celebration of Disability Awareness Month, Union Bank has partnered with KPBS to honor two local heroes. Cynthia Jones and William Stothers, advocates for people with disabilities, and Stephen Wampler were recognized at a private dinner celebration with their families and executives from KPBS and Union Bank. “Their strength and vision is truly inspiring as they work tirelessly on improving our communities,” said Pierre Habis, Head of Union Bank’s Consumer and Business Bank.

at&t contributes to PIQE

Parent Institute for Quality Education received a $25,000 check from AT&T. Regional Vice President of External Affairs Ignacio De La Torre and Area Manager of External Affairs Christine Moore along with California State Senator Ben Hueso, made the presentation on Oct. 23. PIQE

Educates, empowers, and transforms parents to actively engage in their children’s education and strengthen parent-school collaboration in order to improve the academic success of students.

Workshop for Warriors received a $37,000 donation from Core Powered. In addition, the company contributed a vending machine for students that they will keep stocked. Core Powered’s Vice President Deborah Doyle launched the GoFundMe campaign “70 Veterans at the Table” with the goal of raising $55,000 by December 2015. The funds will go directly towards feeding veterans enrolled in Workshops for Warriors’ training program.

The second “Heroes Day” for Bridgepoint Education and Ashford University was held on Oct. 24 when 200 employees volunteered to clean up the San Diego River in Mission Valley. Students from Ashford joined in to give back to the San Diego community. The volunteers teamed up with the San Diego River Park Foundation to take part in the Foundation’s Clean Sweet event. “The Heroes Day tradition at Bridgepoint Education has always been about giving back to the communities we serve and trying to make the world a better place through local volunteer efforts,” said Andrew Clark, CEO at Bridgepoint Education.

U.S. Olympic runner and CSU San Marcos track & field coach Steve Scott and SDSU Aztecs’ head basketball coach Steve Fisher, who were both diagnosed with prostate cancer and were successfully treated at Scripps, have teamed up to help Scripps with its “Rock the Stache” fundraiser. “Men are growing a mustache during the month of November to raise awareness of the disease,” said Susan Taylor, Scripps Health’s executive director, external affairs.
