Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego held its 22nd annual Golf Tournament on Oct. 21 at The Santaluz Club in Rancho Santa Fe. Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation was the Title Sponsor and Rolf Benirschke was the Honorary Chair. Other sponsors included La Jolla Oral and Facial /Surgery, Boulder OMS Callaway, HME, Balfour Beatty Construction and California Bank & Trust. $113,000 was raised to help families in need.

Union Bank employees in San Diego participated in Global Volunteer Month.  Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group designated the month of November as Global Volunteer Month: MUFG Gives Back. Union Bank, as a member of MUFG, united for a month of volunteer activities to give back to the community.  198 employees  volunteered and provided 378 hours of service to events such as Senior Community Centers, Serving Seniors, Survivors of Suicide, Feeding America, San Diego River Park Foundation and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Five Council of Community Clinic members were selected by the Health and Human Services Department for New Access Points awards. NAP will expand access to primary care to an additional 1.25 million patients at Community Health Centers nationally. The San Diego community clinics receiving funding were Borrego Health and San Jacinto, San Diego/Riverside County; Operation Samahan in National City; La Maestra Family Clinic, San Diego; and Neighborhood Healthcare, Escondido. Funding was awarded through the Affordable Care Act’s Health Center Fund.

The city of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture issued grants totaling $328,037 to eight arts organizations for projects associated with the 2015 Balboa Park Centennial Celebration. La Jolla Playhouse, Mainly Mozart Festival and the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center all received $58,703 which were the largest grants.

The California Dental Association Foundation’s CDA Cares was held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds on December 6- 7. CDA Cares provided free dental care to people of all ages. Dr. William Rawlings and two assistants from Great Smiles Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics were among the dentists and dental assistants who volunteered their time and expertise for the two-day event.

Tastes & Toasts to support art in schools is being held on Dec. 5 at Wine A Bit in Coronado. The proceeds from Tastes & Toasts benefit the ArtReach free workshop program that offers free workshops to schools that have no visual art education or resources to fund such programs.  Since 2007, ArtReach has provided free lessons taught to over 10,000 students at schools from North County to the South Bay and all points in between.

The Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics was held on Dec. 3. The Ethics Sponsor was SDG&E, A Sempra Energy utility. The Presenting Scholarship sponsor was Sycuan Casino and the Gold Sponsors included Barney & Barney, Barona and Jack in the Box. Torch Awards went to HD Supply Facilities Maintenance, MRC Smart Technology Solutions, Anderson Plumbing Heating & Air, Jackson Design and Remodeling, Marrokal Design & Remodeling  and Health Savings Associates Insurance Services.

The North County Health Services is holding a groundbreaking ceremony on Dec. 13 to celebrate the expansion of the Mission Mesa health center.  The NCHS Mission Mesa health center will undergo a complete reconstruction of its Pediatrics building expanding the facility from six exam rooms to 18. The new facility will also offer a procedure room, two health education rooms along with other additional rooms. The facility will serve 9,000 children which is double the capacity of the current location.
