The San Diego International Film Festival Opening Night Film Premiere will be Can You Ever Forgive Me? starring Melissa McCarthy. Critics are raving about her performance and the film is a sharp, funny drama. The screening will be at the historic Balboa Theatre with an after party at the OMNIA Nightclub.

Film Synopsis: Melissa McCarthy stars as Lee Israel, the best-selling celebrity biographer (and cat lover) who made her living in the 1970’s and 80’s profiling the likes of Katherine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estee Lauder and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen. When Lee found herself unable to get published because she had fallen out of step with the marketplace, she turned her art form to deception, abetted by her loyal friend Jack (Richard E. Grant).

The film kicks off the 2018 San Diego International Film Festival which features 100+ films, from documentaries to indie features to shorts, attendees can meet & mingle with filmmakers from around the world and attend a variety of parties. Celebrity honorees include: Kenny Loggins, Topher Grace, Kathryn Haha, and Alex Wolff.
