If you’re looking to make your next getaway a green one, look no further than your own backyard. San Diego is home to three of the top eco-friendly resorts in the country:
The picturesque L'Auberge Resort in Del Mar is going easy on the planet at their restaurant and spa. At KITCHEN 1540 you can sample farm-to-plate fare made from the freshest local organic produce, plus sustainably-raised seafood and free range meats. At the spa, only organic and all-natural products that are gentle on the environment (and your skin) are used. And, instead of plastic sheets, the spa uses specially-made textiles crafted from recycled potato skins.
La Jolla's Estancia Hotel and Spa is another local hotel that takes eco-consciousness seriously. The property was recently awarded San Diego’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Award for their property-wide recycling campaign. They were able to do this by instating a “Reuse Option Program” for guest linens and towels, allowing guests to have the option of reusing these items instead of washing them unnecessicarily. The hotel also donates all of their old equipment and furniture and prints all of the restaurant menus on recycled paper.
Mission Bay's Island Oasis, Paradise Point Resort and Spa, is taking little steps to make a big difference. They were one of the first hotels to implement an automatic, refillable dispenser system in their guestroom bathrooms for shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. The property also features over 450 different types of carbon-monoxide converting flowers and plants and staff members get around the resort on environmentally-friendly bikes or electric carts.
