Everyday Eats: Two Huge Slices from Bronx Pizza
2 Slices: $5
111 East Washington St, Hillcrest
Let's face it, often the three most important parts of the day are breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And that's why here at SanDiegoMagazine.com, we're beefing up our food and restaurant coverage by shining the spotlight on tasty meals under $10. Foie gras and Kobe beef still have a place at our table, but these meals are so reasonably priced, you can eat them every day.
If the "two huge slices" headline didn't grab you, let me add some more incentive: not only does Bronx offer some of the biggest slices in town, they're also among the best -- both in San Diego (and in my personal experience: anywhere). From the crisp, yet chewy crust to the generous amounts of cheese and fresh toppings, Bronx Pizza puts out a solid slice.
The New York style pizza shop always has plenty of different slices on offer, including options for vegetarians and meat lovers alike. The shop is most known for their white stone pies, which are covered with a thick layer of mozzarella, ricotta, and parmesan cheeses (with a little kick of garlic). I like to balance out the richness of the white stone with a tomato sauce-based slice, like the veggie slice pictured above.
Since Bronx doesn't deliver, picking up a few slices is the quickest way to get your mitts on some some pizza. Either take them to go, or find a spot in one of the dining areas (my favorite is the mid section of the restaurant, where it's sunniest). You can also add a drink to your meal for an extra dollar, bringing the tab up to a very reasonable $6.
