Beer of the Week: Ommegang Adoration
In one of its finest efforts, Brewery Ommegang delivers this strong, dark Belgian ale
Strong Belgian Dark Ale (10% ABV)
Few American breweries do as good a job at replicating traditional Belgian ales than New York’s Brewery Ommegang. One of their finest efforts is this brawny holiday beer. Aptly enough, this December quaff comes across like liquid sugar plums. Each sip brings on a myriad of flavors—fruitiness, tartness and spice all come on strong. The latter’s a result of coriander, cumin, mace, cardamom and grains of paradise added during the brewing process. A Granny Smith apple acidity grows as the beer warms. That—and the high alcohol by volume—make it a perfect brew to sit and nip away a la Jack Frost.
Available at: On tap at 98 Bottles or, ironically enough, in bottle at better beer shops (what are the better beer shops, you ask…check out last week's blog for a solid list)
Pair it with: A beer as bold as this goes great with a variety of cheeses, particularly those as rich as it is. Order 98 Bottles’ Epic Cheese Plate and enjoy the interplay of mixing four types of fromage and praline patisserie smoked applewood caramel with this warming winter ale.
