Beer of the Week: Karl Strauss Heavy Petti Double IPA
Don't miss out on Karl Strauss's unofficial beer selection of San Diego Beer Week.
Karl Strauss Heavy Petti Double IPA
Double India Pale Ale (8.7% ABV)
Karl Strauss released this double IPA as the unofficial beer of San Diego Beer Week. It made cameos all over town over that 10-day span. There are still several spots where you can find this special beer (named after. James Petti, one of the company’s brewers) on tap. Like many Karl Strauss beers, it features more malt backbone than most brews of the same style. That bready maltiness dominates the front palate before being wiped away by a citrus burst that lingers in tandem with blunt hop bitterness that, much like out-of-town holiday guests, hangs around an incredibly long time.
Available at: On tap at Bruski’s in Scripps Ranch
Pair it with: It’s a cinch this hop-forward IIPA will make a good tablemate with Bruski’s Blue Balls—all-beef meatballs with bacon and bleu cheese at their bold yet mushy core. That new menu item is slated to roll out by year’s end. For now, enjoy Heavy Petti in tandem with $2 carne asada and fish-stuffed tacos.
