Stone 12.12.12 Vertical Epic Ale Belgian-style Abbey Ale
(9% alcohol by volume)

In 2002, Stone Brewing Co. (1999 Citracado Parkway, Escondido) started crafting an annual series of Belgian-inspired beers designed to be aged. The first of the series, Stone 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale, came out on February 2, 2002, with each subsequent brew released exactly one year, one month and one day later (03.03.03, 04.04.04, 05.05.05, etc.). From the beginning, the intent was to uncork every Vertical Epic Ale and enjoy them en masse on December 12, 2012. Stone 12.12.12 Vertical Epic Ale closes the book on this ambitious brewing project. Brewed with cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, clove, orange peel and rosehips, it resembles a dark, rich, spicy Belgian Christmas ale, paying homage to the holidays while celebrating a special occasion all its own.

Available at:

This beer was shipped to accounts all over San Diego on December 3. Though produced in a nice-sized run, there’s bound to be a big run on it, so if you haven’t purchased a 22-ounce bottle or one of the snazzy three-liter servings, you’ll want to get out there and do so sooner than later. Then, just sit back and wait for 12.12.12 to arrive and enjoy, if possible, with previous Vertical Epic Ale vintages.
