‘The Show’ Takes On the Ultimate San Diego Bucket List
Our friends at Rock 105.3 accepted the #SDMbucketlist challenge—will you?
Sky, Taylor, Jessica, and Eddie at Belmont Park's Giant Dipper Roller Coaster
Last Friday, fellow San Diego Magazine staffer Taylor and I had the pleasure of meeting up with our favorite morning radio show hosts, Eddie and Sky from The Show at Rock 105.3, to check off two items from our Ultimate San Diego Bucket List. First up was riding the Giant Dipper roller coaster in Belmont Park, followed by eating a Rubio’s fish taco at the OG location in Pacific Beach.
As a Giant Dipper first-timer I was a bit nervous. Roller coasters definitely aren’t my thing—but in the name of the #sdmbucketlist I had to give it a go. It was rickety. I mean, the thing was built in 1925, if you can believe it! I flew out of my seat and hit the lap bar a couple of times. I cried a few tears (seriously, that old girl can go pretty fast!), I almost threw up, and I laughed a lot. The consensus? It was well worth it.
Stop number two, at the original Rubio’s location, was the highlight of the excursion. We were treated to lunch by founder Ralph Rubio himself! And we got a Rubio’s history lesson. Did you know that Ralph’s an SDSU grad? Or that he opened the business with his father in the 80s? I had the blackened fish taco with a side of beans. (Okay—maybe I had two. But when you are dining with the founder you gotta go big!) What I love about Rubio’s? They are super food allergy-friendly, which is great for a gal who shies away from gluten and dairy.
Follow @TheShowEddie on his journey to tackle the complete #SDMbucketlist challenge here. He’s doing great so far! And don’t forget to listen to The Show every weekday morning from 6 to 10 a.m. Not only are these guys hysterical, but they LOVE San Diego Magazine. It’s a win-win, people.
