Corey Brock

Sports Reporter

In this issue, Corey shares his take on new Padres general manager A.J. Preller.

After eight seasons covering the Pads, the start of spring training is… still exciting. After a crazy off-season with the team adding interesting players, this should be a wild season.

One Padre to watch in 2015? Justin Upton. He has a history of making Petco Park look small. Don’t be in line for craft beer when he’s up to bat.

Do you have a funny Valentine story? I bought my wife a vegan cookbook one year, only to discover later that it was a weight loss cookbook. Gentlemen, never EVER make this mistake—no matter how good the quinoa recipes look!

This V-Day, I would like… for our nanny to (please) be available to watch our 15-month-old twin boys, the Brocklets.

Ashtyn Douglas

Freelance Writer

In this issue, Ashtyn profiles seven-year-old skateboarding phenom Sierra Kerr, whose dad is pro surfer Josh Kerr.

What surprised you about skateboarder Sierra Kerr? Everything. She packs so much fearlessness and talent into such a tiny body.

Did she teach you any tricks? I wish. Although if I tried anything, it would’ve been so embarrassing.

My idea of the perfect Valentine’s Day is… cappuccinos and greasy breakfast burritos in the morning, surfing all day, and a glass of wine or three at B0-Beau at night.

This V-Day, I would like… the managers at Searsucker Del Mar to give my boyfriend the night off.

Most romantic spot in San Diego… Fish 101, where I had my first date with my boyfriend.

Jay Reilly

Cover Photographer

In this issue, Jay captures SUP yoga and other local workout trends.

Do you have any fitness goals for 2015? To focus on my alignment. Years of running and hard workouts knocked me out a bit. So every day at lunch I go to yoga.

What’s one thing you wish you did for your health? I wish I could find the time for a massage.

What fitness craze do you want to try in 2015? Aerial yoga.

Fitness philosophy? I like my workouts to be well balanced. I do a 20/20/20 workout: 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of weight training, and 20 minutes of stretching, one hour a day, six days a week—all before the sun comes up! It’s a great way to start the day.

Most challenging thing about shooting the cover? Two hours of standing in 63-degree water can be cold.
