5 Must-See Photos in Our July Issue

As the magazine's Creative Director, I see thousands of images every day. (Some days my eyes are ready to cross by noon—but in a good way!) Every issue, however, I will have my favorites. Certain pics stay with me. Food and cocktail pics have especially strong staying power, but also great landscapes and cool portraits. Here are my picks for the current issue. Enjoy!

1. The food porn pizza at Mozza

From the first time I saw this photo taken for our restaurant review, and every time thereafter, I've wanted to get in my car and drive to Mozza at the Old Police Headquarters to bite into that margherita pizza. Read Troy Johnson's review here.

2. The indoor sand training studio

Sand indoors for a workout? Who would have thought! I loved seeing everyone's reaction to this photo on our edit wall before we sent it to press. Read more about the concept and fitness space (at Oceanside's Baja Body Athletic Club) in our MOVE section.

While doing photo research for our photographic homage to the firefighters that battled to rescue our county this June, this photo caught my eye in a sea of thousands. I knew we had to have it in the magazine. See all the other photos we chose here.

5. The refreshing-looking espresso con gelato at Gelato Vero Caffe in Mission Hills

I had never heard of this dessert and this photo convinced me instantly that I was missing out.This is now on my "must try" list. See other summertime treats here.
