Last weekend visitors flocked to the lavender fields at Highland Spring Resort in Cherry Valley, California (about 1.5-hour drive from San Diego) to celebrate the ninth annual lavender festival.

Festival highlights include arts and crafts, a horse-drawn wagon tour, farmers market, petting zoo, and live music. The resort itself is a historical landmark (Riverside County’s first!) and was once a hot spot for celebs like Albert Einstein, Wyatt Earp, and Frank Sinatra.

This year’s festival is over, but the grounds are still open to visitors on weekends. Stop by the resort’s certified organic 123 Farm, enjoy a lavender-infused margarita or mojito at the Grand Oak Steakhouse & Bar, and browse gift items like lavender bouquets. The scent should last about a year, and the herb itself can help soothe certain skin ailments and anxiety.

Not keen on the 1.5-hour drive? Visit Key Creek Lavender Fields in Valley Center. But it’s your last chance to enjoy this fun summer activity. Key Creek’s grounds are only open to the public until June 30.

Happy scenting!
