Health Food Concept Flower Child Opens in Del Mar This Week

I’m not good with choices. When you don’t eat meat, having to choose is not usually an issue, since restaurants that cater to omnivores generally only have one or two meat-free items on the menu. It makes ordering out a lot easier: Do I want the pasta or the salad?

Flower Child will be open seven days a week, with breakfast served on the weekends.

The many choices at Flower Child, opening this week at Del Mar’s Flower Hill Promenade, are bound to make my life harder. The menu at the new fast-casual health food concept, while not meat-free, is extremely vegetarian-friendly. It also caters to vegans and people with gluten sensitivities.

The Del Mar location is the first in San Diego (and second in California) from Sam Fox, the restaurateur behind True Food Kitchen. With a focus on salads, bowls, wraps, and a generous selection of sides, the restaurant is suitable both for those looking for a pre-yoga energy boost (there’s even designated “yoga mat parking”) and those in need of a Sunday morning hangover cure (try a sip of Liquid Sunshine, made with coconut water, carrot, orange, ginger, and turmeric). 

And since we’re in San Diego: Yes, the patio is dog-friendly, and yes, they serve craft beer. Just don’t be in too much of a hurry— you’ll need some extra time to try and pick only one thing from the menu.
