Our story about the San Ysidro border crossing was not an easy one to get. The government agency that oversees the Port of Entry (aka “the POE”) made us cut through some serious red tape:

Our editorial team went through four levels of clearance before the Office of Field Operations for U.S. Customs and Border Protection would release any information.

They told us that if we sent a drone to capture an overhead photo of the border crossing, it would be shot down!

We ultimately got photos from the GSA who works with CBP to oversee the POE at SYS. They like to talk in acronyms.
