Remembering Junior Seau

The sudden death of a local NFL star has us looking back on his life

Published:

As you may have already learned, Junior Seau was found dead this morning with a gunshot wound to his chest. His death is an apparent suicide, the North County Times reports.

The news comes as a shock to even non-football fans, as Seau was just 43 years old and a known (and very beloved) charitable, local personality. He was a graduate of Oceanside High School, went to USC, and was drafted to the San Diego Chargers in 1990.

In looking back, we've compiled some of the stories in which Seau appeared over the years in San Diego Magazine.

* January 1996: "Nifty 50" by Tom Blair et al.

* September 2000: "In Any Given Season..." by Dave Distel.

* February 2001: "Tackling Race in Sports" by Ron Donoho.

* January 2004: An interview with Junior Seau, by Tom Blair.

* May 2003: Ron Donoho's piece about Seau's.

* December 2006: An item on the Junior Seau Foundation.

* Photos from the Junior Seau Foundation's 20th Anniversary Junior Seau Celebrity Golf Classic weekend, March 10-12, 2012.
