Greatest Gig in Town?

Miss Meanley talks about covering the Travel beat

Published:

Lucky lady Erin Meanley, San Diego Mag’s senior editor, oversees our Travel coverage. Last year, we flung her off to Tokyo for a story. For this issue, she toured the Kohala Coast on Hawaii’s Big Island, and just 72 hours after we send it to the printer, she’s off to Paris to check out what’s new in the city of lights. Baja, Las Vegas, and Napa Valley are all on her radar for later this year. So what's the best thing about the gig? “The huge sense of freedom. When I was an assistant in NYC, I was afraid to leave my desk to go to the bathroom. My boss was the one calling from Milan. I have never taken this roaming thing for granted, and I never will.”  And the worst thing about the gig? “Sometimes, you know, you have to take notes at dinner.”

Despite the need for a notepad at dinner, we think it's one of the more fun gigs here at San Diego Mag. What's the coolest job you've either had or heard of in San Diego?
