Rules and Regulations

  1. Contestants must be unsigned without a current record or publishing deal.
  2. Must be original lyrics and music that is original material. SDM/Curtco LLC, Curtco Media Labs is not liable for any suits claimed for violation of copyright and licensing infringements from covering a previously recorded song.
  3. Contestants may enter from anywhere in the world.
  4. Contestants must be a minimum of 13 years of age.
  5. Songs may be any genre or style of music.
  6. Songs must be sung in the English language.
  7. Songs may be original or a cover about San Diego.
  8. Performances may NOT be lip-synched - must be recorded live.
  9. Songs may be acapella or performed with live accompaniment.
  10. Entries must be received prior to May 31, 2008.
  11. In order to move to the next phase, a contestant must accumulate fan votes on their profile to prove their power to win fans.
  12. Popular profiles will be featured more prominently on the site.
  13. All submissions are permissible to be utilized in future promotions by San Diego Magazine.
  14. The potential YOUR SONG winner must respond to the producers with their acceptance by June 6, 2008 or an alternate will be selected from runners-up.
  15. Employees of SDM/Curtco LLC, Curtco Media Labs, our competition partners, participating companies, and their ad agencies, (and members of the immediate families of each) may not enter.
  16. YOUR SONG WINNER will be announced by June 16, 2008.

Finalists

  1. All finalists qualify for evaluation by the YOUR SONG judging panel.
  2. Judges reserve the right to promote any contestant to finalist status based upon talents and regardless of votes.
  3. YOUR SONG judges will single out the best of the best and the worst of the worst as the competition goes from hot to blistering.
  4. The judges will score each contestant video entry on a scale of 1 to 100 total possible points.
  5. The following judging criteria will be applied to each video; Performance Skills (25%), Musicianship (25%), Star Personality (25%) and Entertainment Value (25%).
  6. A random sample of contestants will have the judges' evaluation commentary shot and uploaded to the site.
  7. Judging commentary on a "Best of the Worst" category will also be shot and uploaded.
