Washington, D.C. |

Dear Don:
It’s hot and humid. But our 12-year-old granddaughter is amazed by Washington, D.C. Riley and I had our four-and-ahalf- day visit planned by the concierge at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Georgetown—great for families.
For Riley, history is coming to life. We boarded the Spirit of Mount Vernon for a Potomac cruise to George Washington’s home. We toured his mansion and ate at the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant, where staffers wear period costumes.
A treat—we met coveted guide Ismail Naskai, who gave us a VIP city tour. He scored us a private White House visit, led by a Secret Service agent. We saw Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and viewed D.C. from the top of the Washington Monument. At the National Mall, we walked the length of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial before visiting the Lincoln Memorial.
I liked the tour of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, better known as the “money factory.” A supervisor told us it was great fun to go to work each day and make money. I agreed with the latter more than the former.
There is so much more to do; I’ll write again after we get Congress back in line.
Love, Jeanne
