THIS IS GETTING EXCITING. Travels has been in existence three years— the inaugural issue was May 2002. Until now, we published twice a year. In 2006, we’re going quarterly.
Our new quarterly Travels will be region-focused. This month, for example, we dedicate extended coverage to Mexico. Look for our feature story about Puerto Vallarta. Read how the destination really took off after Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor scandalized the world with a tabloid-size love affair. Also on Mexico this month: Weekend Explorer TV host Jeffrey Lehman goes fishing in Loreto, and contributor Kathleen Gurnett discovers Cabo San Lucas has grown up—in a very good way.
So we’ll start looking more closely at four destinations next year:
March—California.
June—Las Vegas.
September—Mexico.
December—Islands.
It’s going to be fun.
BUT THE FUN STARTS RIGHT NOW. Besides our Mexico-centric offerings, we bring you a full slate of travel trends, tips and first-person destination stories.
Our front-of-the-book section, Travel Bag, has been expanded. It holds travel news—like ways to get through an airport like a pro, and what’s new with cell phone usage in airplanes. We added Weekend Explorer, too, and Fabulous Travels with Jeanne Jones. Jones is a well-known and well-traveled writer. She gets invited to places many of us can’t even dream about—because we don’t even know they exist.
For seafaring mates, Don Braunagel gives an update on the coolest cruises being offered. And if you travel in Jeanne Jones–type circles, you’ll need to read Maggie Espinosa’s tale of megayacht vacations.
All aboard. Enjoy the issue.
