A Different Deal
Guided: Trump International, Las Vegas
VEGASOPHILES MIGHT FIND the new Trump International Hotel & Tower, well, boring. There’s no onsite gaming. No smoking. And the lobby bar closes at—— gasp——midnight. In a twist, a property that bears the name of the omnipresent, more-is-more mogul Donald Trump is actually . . . elegantly understated.
The 64-story tower, encased in 24-karat-gold-tinted glass (there’s the ol’ Trump), offers 1,232 suites and 50 penthouse suites. It’s walking distance from gaming galore Wynn and across the street from the Fashion Show Mall.
ROOMS:
Furnished in classic, contemporary style, each room has a floor-to-ceiling window wall. The property was sold as a condo-hotel, and each room has a European style kitchen, with appointments by Wolf, Bosch and Sub-Zero. Put your microwave oven or toaster to use.
Bathrooms are indeed Trumpian. The master bath spa-tub has room to spare. And while bathing, feel free to watch the TV screen inlaid on the bathroom mirror, above the marble countertop vanity.
WHERE TO EAT:
DJT (The Donald’s initials) offers a modern American menu. The ground-floor restaurant is run by executive chef Joseph Isadori, personal chef to the Trump family and former corporate chef at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach. Signature dishes include the chilled sweet-pea soup with fromage blanc and mixed fruits, and Chinese braised short ribs with cucumber yogurt and mango. The restaurant is open for dinner every night except Monday. There is a more casual room in DJT where breakfast is served every morning.
WHAT TO DO:
The seventh floor is really the hotel’s adult playground. There’s an outdoor pool, serviced for lunch by H2(eau) restaurant. The 1,500-square-foot health club is run by celebrity trainer Jeff Martin. A 10,000-square-foot spa has nine treatment rooms. Enjoy a massage called “Vegas Recovery,” a service that aims to knead out the ill effects of a late night in Sin City.
The stars of the spa seem to be the high-end product lines. Trump has an exclusive arrangement with celebrity skin-care expert Kate Sommerville, as well as signature products by Shiffa. The Shiffa line of precious gem oils——ruby, sapphire, emerald and diamond——contains ionized versions of the gemstones.
“The Trump hotel will become a Vegas destination,” Sommerville believes. “There’s no casino, no smoking and the spa——it all shows you can do Vegas with class.”
