THE BAJA PENINSULA is home to myriad surf spots: Baja Malibu, Quatro Casas and Shipwrecks in northern Baja; Scorpion Bay, Zippers and Cabo in Baja Sur. Recent violence in Mexico may have you wary of braving Baja, but we’ve collected these luxury surf packages. Adventure Out: A northern Baja package includes transportation to and from San Diego, oceanfront lodging with access to a pool and hot tub (with a patrolled, gated private beach) and three meals daily. The luxury compound has a massage therapist on hand and provides transportation and Spanish-speaking guides for trips into town. Cabo Surf Hotel: Located on the Sea of Cortéz, the Cabo Surf Hotel in Cabo San Lucas is an ideal getaway for long-boarders. The boutique hotel has a fitness room, spa and beachfront dining. Rooms range from $265 for a single to $625 for a seven-person suite with a private terrace. Cabo Surf Hotel is close enough for more experienced surfers who can paddle out to Zippers or La Roca. The family-friendly hotel is also home to Mike Doyle’s Surf School. Baja Surf Adventures: The Northern Baja Surf Resort boasts 10 first-class breaks and offers boat trips to remote offshore locations for more experienced surfers. Packages run from $515 per person for three days and two nights to $1,050 for seven days and six nights, including transportation, board rental, three meals a day and accommodations. A southern Baja package is for experienced surfers, with the choice of driving from San Diego and surfing the whole way down or flying directly into San José del Cabo, La Paz or Loreto. The package is available only from July to October—— ideal times to surf from East Cape to Scorpion Bay. Pacific Surf School: The school offers custom five-day surf trips to Rosarito and picks up students at San Diego’s Lindbergh Field. Three meals a day are provided, along with daily surf instruction, coaching and equipment.
