MARILYN MONROE and the cast of the comedy classic Some Like It Hot may have immortalized the Hotel del Coronado on film, but the property’s new Beach Village “resort within a resort” is fueling the property’s red-hot reputation for luxury and leisure.

Adjacent to the Del’s signature property and skirting an expansive shoreline, Beach Village comprises 35 cottages and villas——all opening up to private balconies and terraces with sweeping ocean views. Don’t be fooled by the word “cottage”——these two- and three-bedroom suites come with every modern amenity, from fully equipped kitchens with Wolf rangetops and granite counters to multiple 42-inch, flat-panel TVs equipped with home-theater-quality Bose surround-sound systems and iPod docks.

Beach Village reflects a modern interpretation of the Del’s coastal architectural style. In the living room, elegant crown molding complements rich walnut flooring and sea-inspired carpeting and décor. Cavernous bathrooms feature custom vanities with marble tops, stone-tile flooring and separate soaking tubs and showers. Multiple fireplaces warm the living areas and cast a cozy glow. Private hot tubs and pools with cabañas and personal concierge service offer another perk for the crowd-weary.

But the real centerpiece is the view. Panoramic windows and doors allow morning-to-evening vistas of the horizon and bustling beach activity: A hotel-led yoga class greets the morning with sun salutations; a bride and groom steal away for a quiet moment at dusk.
