Love is in the Air

IN CASE YOU NEED A REFRESHER: Travels comes out twice a year—it’s delivered with San Diego Magazine in February and September. And since every other issue comes in the month that also holds Valentine’s Day, we tend to turn a romantic eye toward travel.

This time, we focus on “Honeymoon Hot Spots.” A year ago, veteran freelance writer Eilene Zimmerman researched a story focusing on romantic getaways. She found luxury and privacy were keys to travels l’amour. But this time around, Zimmerman looked into the most-popular places newlyweds were going after saying “I do.” Her discovery: Couples go down the aisle—then head for the closest isle. Her latest story points to 10 islands—from Hawaiian to Caribbean and various specks in between—where the honeymoons never end.

Closer to home, our destination pieces focus on some very specific niches in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Writing team Janet Aird and Don Dale let us in on a Hollywood secret: The way to the top is picturesque—and paved. They unveil specific hikes that can be taken on underpublicized sets of stairs in the Hollywood Hills. And Bob Ecker got to fulfill any travel writer’s dream when he researched what it’s like to dine like a high-roller in Vegas.

Bon appétit. Happy Travels.
