Vice Admiral Edward H. Martin, USN (retired)POW 1967-1973
Good food, fine furniture, exotic travel—and no small measure of pride in his past—are the obvious rewards of the life Ed Martin has lived in the years since his release. The Coronado resident’s distinguished Navy career, his expertise in the Middle East, antiterrorism, naval strategy and Vietnam, propelled him to the rank of admiral. But it’s
Martin’s confidence that he was—and is—doing the right thing for his country that is an unmistakable theme of his life. And an enduring marriage to Sherry underscores that theme.
Captain Render Crayton,USN (retired)
POW 1966-1973
Southern values have held the La Jolla resident in good stead. They were the values he credits with guiding him through the years in captivity, and which his 98-year-old mother has reminded him of frequently through a Navy career, while running USD’s Naval ROTC program and during retirement. Crayton’s style is to trust people to do what is right. “In the South and in the Navy, a handshake is as good as a paper document, and that’s the way I feel,” he says.
