Coronado

The destination of choice for presidents, stars, royalty, sports figures, artists and authors (The Wizard of Oz was written on the island’s sunny shores), Coronado has attracted the famous and not-so-famous for more than 100 years.

Just across the bay from downtown San Diego, this postcard-perfect community offers the visitor tree-lined streets, stately old homes and charming bungalows, beautiful beaches and activities that range from shopping to Rollerblading. A shopper’s paradise, Coronado has something for everyone, from the specialty shops and restaurants at the Ferry Landing Marketplace to the charming main-street boutiques and sidewalk cafes of Orange Avenue to the gallery of shops at historic Hotel del Coronado.

Walk, rent a bike or a pair of Rollerblades, and explore the 15 miles of flat and scenic designated bike paths. Shuttle and trolley services pick up every 30 minutes at the Hotel del Coronado, the Ferry Landing Marketplace and points along Orange Avenue. Don’t miss Old Town Trolley’s tour of North Island Naval Air Station.

Directions

The 15-minute ferry trip between the B Street Pier in downtown San Diego and the Ferry Landing Marketplace leaves for Coronado on the hour, with returns on the half hour until 9:30 p.m. Last stop in Coronado is 10 p.m (Fri - Sat only). Cost is $3 per person each way.

Toll fees:The Coronado Bridge is free. Silver Strand Bus Route 901 operates daily from approximately 5:30 a.m. - 12:30 a.m. Stops are every 30 minutes.
