Little Italy

The northern edge of San Diego Bay was once home to scores of Italian families, many that toiled in the successful tuna fishing industry year ago. The tuna trade has left, but the strong Italian influence remains in this area off of Kettner and India just north of downtown. The area today is filled with sidewalk cafes and delis, shops and restaurants. Filippi's Pizza Grotto (619-232-5094) at 1747 India Street has been a San Diego tradition since the 1950's. The area is convenient stop off of the Trolley as it winds north towards Old Town, making Little Italy an ideal place for a nice meal or light stroll.
