How to look fashionable yet stay eco-friendly
It’s out there. Everywhere you look, fur and leather are in this season’s fall fashion line. But what do you do when you don't want to wear real fur or leather yet still be in style? Well, you're in luck: Several local designers and shops can help you stay in fashion while remaining green and friendly to the earth. I'm happy to see that more people are leaning toward organic, eco-friendly and green fashion. The best part is we can find these items in our own backyard.
Let’s start with the fur that's taking over this season. I love the look, the cozy feel and the fact you can wear it any time of day. I have to admit I died when Rachel Zoe graced the TV screen wearing fur last season on The Rachel Zoe Project. I knew that shortly after we would be flooded with the look, and was pleased as punch when it showed up on the runway for this fall. I couldn't wait to find some furs — but I wanted the faux furs, so the hunt was on.
I found them; faux fur vests in three styles at Mimi & Red boutique in North Park. You may remember me talking about this boutique in my "Chic and Oh So Cheap" blog. There you'll find a long white vest that's soft and cozy. You’ll also find this vest in the short version. The third vest is brown and just as adorable. The long vest is great for an evening out with some studded tights and cute boots. The short vests can be worn day or night, getting gas, running errands or out to dinner. There are many options to how you can wear these vests. I recommend stopping by the shop to see the beautiful vests in faux fur. I hope you love them as much as I do.
Accessories are the best way you can change your look, and I always start with a new bag. Leather handbags in every shape and color are huge right now. I found some beautiful bags that fit the bill and are eco-friendly! Bagonia Bags are designed and made in the United States, are eco-friendly and absolutely fabulous! This line is taking a stand and doing its part to protect the environment and animals. The line has vegan bags made from reclaimed materials. Additionally, in the back of every bag is a zipper pocket to hold a reusable grocery bag. I cannot say enough how much I love these bags. Chic, stylish and eco-friendly are right up my alley. I also love Bagonia’s Busy Bag Bow — it has compartments for everything, which are removable for cleaning. Coming soon is the Bagonia Rose bag, a new type of bag that's fashionable, functional and can be strapped on to your bike. Amazing! I highly recommend you check out this line. I know you'll fall in love with it too.
It is possible to sport that adorable fur vest and oversize leather bag while being fashionably eco-friendly? The answer is yes, and styles and trends can really be worn by anyone; you just have to seek out what you want. Eco-friendly is here with some fantastic styles for you. They're right in our backyard, so open the shutters and take a peek!
