Top Doctors 2006
In compiling the list, we once again partnered with the San Diego County Medical Society. Please see SDCMS president Ted Mazer’s letter for a complete rundown on the society’s selection methodology. We have attempted to make this the most comprehensive—if not perfectly definitive —collection of the best doctors in town.
In addition to the list, we asked two of our longstanding contributors to look at trends and happenings in the medical profession. Margie Farnsworth probes the sometimes rocky doctor/patient relationship. She found two medical professors working locally to help surgeons open better lines of communication with their patients.
And Eilene Zimmerman checks in with a hero she first met back in July 2005. At that time, Marine Corps Lance Corporal Douglas Hayenga was wheelchair-bound, just back after suffering extensive injuries when a mortar round exploded near him in Iraq. Today—multiple surgeries later—the 23- year-old sergeant continues to mend, has graduated college and is looking forward to a bright future.
To his—and your—good health.
