Nine of the world’s current top 10 female tennis players battle it out at the 2006 Acura Classic, held at La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, July 29–Aug. 6. The biggest names in the game——Maria Sharapova, Lindsay Davenport, Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters, Martina Hingis (pictured) and Mary Pierce——compete in the tournament, one of the premier events on the global Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. Besides viewing the fierce singles and doubles matches, patrons can attend a gala benefit dinner on August 3 (all proceeds go to the Scripps Polster Breast Care Center, the most comprehensive breast care facility in San Diego).
