Defying the stereotype of weaving-as- women’s-work is this exhibit at Trios Gallery featuring “Five Men Weavers: Wearable Art, Wall Hangings, Rugs and Runners,” work from local artists Flavian Geis, Horace, Lethbridge, Bill Rafnel, Dennis Sharp, Tom Taylor. The show runs through November 3, with a spinning and weaving demonstration in the gallery from noon to 5 on Friday, September 26, and Saturday, October 4. 130 South Cedros Avenue, Solana Beach, 793-6040.
The Secret’s Out
Clothing designer Alexandra Stanton, owner of Boutique Alexandra, says her store is “La Jolla’s best-kept secret,” tucked away on Silverado Street. Stanton’s romantic styles are worthy of runway viewing. She uses deep jewel tones for dresses that are drop-dead flattering and feminine. And they’re made right here in town by Stanton and her husband. The Stantons also do custom orders for a devoted following (who are presumably okay with sharing the secret). 933 Silverado Street, 459-3410.
