Sharp Healthcare

Sharp HealthCare is an integrated, not-for-profit regional healthcare delivery system based in San Diego. Sharp includes four acute-care hospitals, three specialty hospitals and three affiliated medical groups, plus a full spectrum of other facilities and services. Serving a population of about 3 million in San Diego County, Sharp operates 1,870 licensed beds and has approximately 2,600 affiliated physicians on medical staffs and in medical groups. San Diego’s largest private employer, Sharp has nearly 14,000 employees and represents $1.3 billion in assets and $1.8 billion in revenue.

SPECIALTIES AND RESEARCH

Sharp is recognized nationally for clinical excellence for services in cardiac, cancer and multiorgan transplantation, as well as orthopedics, rehabilitation, behavioral health and women’s health.

At the Sharp Metropolitan Medical Campus in central San Diego, Sharp Memorial Hospital currently operates San Diego’s only active cardiac transplant program. Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women, which delivered more babies in 2006 than any other hospital in California, is one of only 17 freestanding women’s hospitals in the nation and provides a full range of women’s healthcare services that cover every stage of a woman’s life. And the Sharp Memorial Hospital Cancer Institute was the first in San Diego to use the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, which provides less-invasive procedures for prostate cancer and cardiac surgery, and has performed more than 180 procedures.

Sharp Grossmont Hospital, the largest healthcare facility in eastern San Diego County, is one of the county’s two Primary Stroke Centers and is known for its state-of-the-art technology and excellence in orthopedic, cancer and endovascular services and emergency and critical care.

Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center provides the largest array of healthcare services in San Diego’s South Bay. Home to the region’s most comprehensive cardiac program, it also has the area’s only certified Community Hospital Cancer Program, radiation oncology center and bloodless surgery program.

Sharp Coronado Hospital provides medical and surgical care, including orthopedics, intensive care, subacute and longterm care and emergency services in a peaceful setting. As San Diego’s only Planetree partner hospital, Sharp Coronado promotes holistic healing by focusing on patient empowerment, patient and family education and complementary therapies.
