Alvarado has been the first to establish a dedicated 24-hour emergency department call system for stroke patients, completed one of the first openheart surgeries in East County, operates one of the only skull-base centers in San Diego, operates one of the most comprehensive rehabilitation institutes in the region, and is home to the well-known surgical weight-loss program.
