The Trinacria Organization of San Diego celebrates the cuisine and culture of Sicily with the 14th annual Sicilian Festival on May 20, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., in——where else?——Little Italy. It’s a chocolate lover’s dream: Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas hosts its popular Chocolate Festival May 12, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. The family-friendly event features chocolate tastings, cooking demonstrations, a chocolate fountain, entertainment, food, children’s activities, plant sales and plenty of options for last-minute Mother’s Day gifts. Walk the Talk
Gather the women (and men) in your life on May 13 for Y-ME’s third annual San Diego Walk To Empower at Mission Bay Park. Starting at 9 a.m., the noncompetitive 3-mile walk raises funds for Y-ME’s free programs and services for women affected by breast cancer. More than 3,500 women in San Diego were served by such programs last year. Y-ME has the only 24-hour hotline staffed entirely by trained breast cancer survivors. The Earliest Artists
The San Diego Museum of Man presents the 24th annual Indian Fair & Market May 19-20, showcasing original works by more than 50 Native American artists. This year’s fair also features the colorful reverse-appliqué molas made by the Kuna artists of Panama and works by Mexican basket-weavers and jewelry-makers. Shop for handcrafted jewelry, pottery, baskets, paintings and musical instruments, but stop to watch the Living Traditions Dance Troupe perform the Eagle Dance.
