The Insider
GOOD GIRL, BAD BOY: After dinner at Hard Rock Hotel’s Nobu, Hairspray actress Amanda Bynes magnanimously looked on as her then-boyfriend Doug Reinhardt——better known as the guy who came between Lauren Conrad and Stephanie Pratt on The Hills——was auctioned off for a charity event at the hotel’s Sweetwater Saloon. Teetotaling Amanda went to bed early, while Doug downed beer and shots of Patron and danced into the wee hours. Should we act surprised the duo has since split?
BACHELOR PARTY: Jason Mesnick——TV watchers know him as The Bachelor——headed to Legoland to treat one of his would-be girlfriends to a date. The single dad took bachelorette Stephanie and her daughter, Sophia, on a private tour of the park, including a picnic in Pirate Shores and a birthday party for Sophia in Miniland U.S.A.
MORE CELEBRITY BIRTHDAYS: At a top-class party at Stingaree sponsored by, ahem, OnlineBootyCall.com, musicians John Legend and Estelle wound down after their performance at RIMAC Arena. It was Estelle’s birthday, so John ignored doctor’s orders to rest his voice and serenaded her with his rendition of “Happy Birthday.” Estelle rang in the big 2-9 with champagne and a red-velvet birthday cake, while John danced and sang along with the Kanye West part when Estelle’s “American Boy” came over the sound system.
ROCKING HARD: Tommy Lee——the former Mr. Pamela Anderson——partied it up at Moonstone Lounge at the Hard Rock Hotel, descending the next morning to the hotel’s diner for some hair-o’-the-dog: a round of Bloody Marys that he and his cronies brought back to their suite. (But not even a wicked hangover could keep Lee from taking time out to pose for pictures with fans.) Also hanging at the hotel: celebutante/reality TV staple Kourtney Kardashian, who joined stepbrother Brody Jenner for dinner at Nobu the night before Jenner hit a Chargers game. And the band Plain White T’s——famous for the ballad “Hey There Delilah”——mingled at Moonstone two nights in a row.
IDOL CHATTER: American Idol’s Michael Johns provided a degree of star wattage to light the Legoland Christmas tree this past holiday season; meanwhile, Idol vet Josh Gracin, a former U.S. Marine at Camp Pendleton, performed a benefit show for the Corps’ Toys for Tots program at Barona Casino. And one-time Idol finalist (and Gaslamp Quarter bartender) Carly Smithson sang the national anthem in Balboa Park before the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals. In a more recent appearance, Smithson was the featured entertainer at February’s American Ireland Fund gala.
DEUCE BIGALOW: ELVIS IMPERSONATOR? Saturday Night Live alum Rob Schneider was seen wandering around the Casbah during the club’s recent 20th-anniversary celebration. At a show featuring one-time San Diego bands Olivelawn and Furious IV, Schneider chatted with former Rocket From the Crypt frontman John Reis, with whom he’s collaborating on a comedy album. Schneider also did a cameo with Reis’ new band, The Night Marchers, on New Year’s Eve at the Belly Up, where he sang Elvis songs. ——RACHEL ZENN SACHS
