Mr. Trivia
THE MILLION-DOLLAR QUESTION: What is the biggest card-giving holiday of the year? College student Jason Luna, 21, made trivia game-show history when he answered correctly (it’s Christmas) and became the first $1 million winner of the popular NBC show 1 vs. 100. A month after the show’s January 4 air date, Luna, from Mission Valley Heights, still hadn’t received his winnings (which he estimates to be $600,000 or $700,000, after taxes) but was making plans to spend some of his windfall.
“I’ve been looking at getting a new car——a Mini Cooper——and will probably go explore around Europe,” he says. “People think I am set for life and will retire to Hawaii or something, but it’s really not that much money.”
And the other million-dollar question? “I mentioned on the show that I didn’t have a girlfriend, and now people want to know if I get hit on a bunch,” says Luna, a senior at the University of California, Irvine. “Unfortunately, that hasn’t really happened yet.”
Luna, who describes himself as a “fledgling writer/actor/director type,” is hoping his 15 minutes of fame segues into a career in entertainment. Until then, don’t be surprised if you see him on an upcoming episode of Jeopardy!
