EVER-PRESENT: Some folks just can’t get enough of the spotlight. On-again, off-again beauty queen Carrie Prejean is one of them. With word Wednesday that Donald Trump had decided to fire her as Miss California after all, her spiritual mentor, Miles McPherson, said Prejean planned to lay low for a while. Not a chance. This morning at 7, she was due to appear on Jeff & Jer’s local radio show. The deal was sealed yesterday with producer Tommy Sablan, who has a knack for coaxing folks to open up — as if Prejean needed coaxing. “I’m doing well. I’m as strong as I was on day one,” she told Sablan. “And I’m not going to let those people get to me.” Stay tuned.
LIFE IN THE CITY: And yes, the Charles LiMandri who’s representing Ms. Prejean is the same Charles LiMandri who acts as general counsel to the National Organization for Marriage. But he has a wide-ranging law practice in Rancho Santa Fe, specializing in everything from toxic mold to traumatic brain injury ... Eleven months after a $1 million fire gutted the Carlsbad restaurant, Sami Ladecki is reopening his Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza on June 24 as a benefit for the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Partners in Education Foundation ... Tweeting fame, too: PR pro Jan Percival tweets. And a few weeks ago, Newsweek magazine tweeted her: “Send us 6 words that describe your thoughts on Obama’s presidency.” Percival’s post: “If he exercises so can I.” It was published June 1 on Newsweek’s letters page.
QUOTEWORTHY: In a recent interview with the Sporting News, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers dipped his toes ever so gently into politics. Rivers, who publicly supported state Prop. 4, requiring parental notification before abortions could be performed on minors, was asked if he also got involved in the campaign against same-sex marriage. Rivers: “On Prop. 8, I did not, but I have the stance you would imagine. As for Prop. 4, just having young daughters, I felt strongly enough about it to try to help out. Another thing I feel strongly about is chastity. You ask why I got married so young? It was important to Tiff and I to remain pure until we got married. That was certainly some motivation right there to get married young.”
FURTHERMORE: Termed-out San Diego councilmember Toni Atkins, who just held her first fund-raiser in a race for Lori Saldaña’s 76th District Assembly seat, has been quietly lining up support from big-name local Democrats. Among them: former congresswoman Lynn Schenk, former state senators Lucy Killea and Dede Alpert, former county supervisor Leon Williams and former assemblyman Howard Wayne. (No current officeholders on the list, yet.) ... Nice shot of Tony Gwynn Jr. Wednesday morning in the Union-Tribune’s “Who’s Hot” feature. Would have been even nicer if Tony had been wearing his Padres cap instead of the old Milwaukee Brewers one ... San Diego cracked the top five among Real Clear Politics’ annual ranking of America’s Safest Cities. We’re fourth-safest. New York’s first. Really.
FAMILY AFFAIR: Diann Shipione, the San Diego pension fund whistle-blower, is headed for Boston. For a few semesters. She’s been accepted for what she calls a “mid-career master’s program in public administration” at Harvard’s Kennedy School. Her husband, attorney Pat Shea, says he’ll be commuting to the East Coast to keep up with her and keep track of his clients in New Jersey and New York. Pat’s already two up on Pat in Harvard degrees (MBA and juris doctorate).

buttocks in a sexual immoral swimsuit before the world!
