Senior Follies, starring San Diego seniors, debuts in East County
You’ve heard of the Dancing Grannies, the fitness troupe of, well, dancing grannies.
Now comes Senior Follies: On the Road Again, a musical journey across the United States starring a cast of San Diego seniors from 55 to 94. The production, with more than 50 song-and-dance numbers honoring every state in the union, kicks off the nonprofit Christian Community Theater’s 2009 season and runs June 19-28 at the East County Performing Arts Center in El Cajon.
Show highlights include such geographically themed numbers as “Kalamazoo,” “Pennsylvania Poker,” “Old Cape Cod,” “Bluest Skies in Seattle,” “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” “Chicago Is My Kind of Town,” “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” “California Girls” and “Moon Over Miami,” along with a keyboard medley from 94-year-old Vesta Young.
The 70-member cast also includes a former Navy Commander, the reigning Ms. Senior California (Shirley Pearson), and several former professional performers from the Palm Springs Follies.
The Senior Follies performances will be held at 7 p.m. on June 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 and 2 p.m. on June 20, 21, 27 and 28. The East Coast Performing Arts Center is located at 210 East Main Street in El Cajon.
Tickets are $18–$38 for adults and $18 for children 12 and under. Discounts are available for military, seniors and groups of 15 or more. Tickets may be purchased online at cctmusicaltheater.com or by calling 800-696-1929.
