Who compiled this list?!? Roy's for best sushi!? The Waterfront for best burger!? Heaven Sent Desserts for best dessert!? Luigi's for best pizza (do they mean Pizzeria Luigi in Golden Hill, or Luigi's in Mission Beach - it should be specified)? This food editor needs to get out and about more often and in-the-know with the favorites of San Diego foodies and national food-related publications and TV programs. Sushi Ota and/or Nobu for sushi, Hodad's for burgers, Extraordinary Desserts for dessert and last, but not least, Bronx in Hillcrest. The same tired names seem to make it on the list every year, despite changing public tastes and waning skills and enthusiasm demonstrated by (some of) the kitchens.
These recommendations fall short of what should be obvious choices and smacks slightly of paid advertising. Try to get it right next time!
Ditto! Every year I've read the recommendations, and am consistently disappointed..Honestly Tom, you need to go to new places and be a bit more adventurous.
The one that gets me is "Corvette Diner" for families..BLEH!!!!! I hate that place--the food makes me VOMIT..There are so many others that are good for kids *AND* for adults--you are recommending for FAMILIES after all..I'm disappointed in you Tom, disappointed. You are a sellout.
I think the best burger would have to go to Burger Lounge! I mean come on, can you get any better than hormone-free grass-fed beef? You can seriously taste the deliciousness in every bite, and feel it too as the juice from your burger is dripping down your fingers! AND to top it off, Burger Lounge strictly SPECIALIZES in burgers; you can't find a better local burger joint than that!
